February 2018

18th February saw the start of the 2018 CHSI Stitches trade show at the NEC.  A really productive day and the opportunity to meet existing and new suppliers, look at the new fabric collections and products and generally be spoilt for choice!  New lines are now on order and Fabric & Crafts will soon be stocking a selection of fat quarter bundles, charm packs, books and, of course, some fabulous new fabric ranges!

Well the first few days of January have been busy.  I've been experimenting with some prototype reversible toddler dresses.  So far have had very good feedback and will be taking them along to some of the 2018 craft fairs to demonstrate that the fabric is excellent for making clothes as well as quilts!

Enjoyed our visit to the Makower UK Open Day at their warehouse in Maidenhead. A lovely team of friendly people and an opportunity to see their new ranges for 2018.  We were made very welcome and it was interesting to see the distribution set up (as well as sampling their delicious refreshments!)

Looking forward to meeting Great British Sewing Bee contestant Stuart Hillard this month and hearing about his life since GBSB series one and his great new book "Use Scraps, Sew Blocks, Make 100 Quilts".  The following day is a lesson in producing a Cathedral Window cushion ..... can't wait.  A gifted teacher and an inspiration.

So after just over 36 years in my NHS job, I've left to start my own business ..... scary but you have to follow your dreams!

This is the beautiful cake made by the highly talented Amanda Ganslandt of Amanda's Cake Corner of Sculthorpe, Norfolk.  As you can see, it follows the patchwork theme and came complete with edible buttons, spools of thread and lace!  Amanda is a true cake wizard - take a look at some of her creations by clicking here.
